From course choice to arrival

Different stages.
A connected plan.

Admission, Campus France processing and the visa decision are separate. Use the applicable instructions for your programme, residence and application date.

01Course & admissionIdentify your programme and the relevant route.

Confirm the course and route

Check your institution, programme, qualification, dates and study duration. This guide focuses on long-stay higher-education preparation; exchanges, internships and other stays may follow different procedures.

Follow the relevant admission process

Check whether you apply through Études en France or directly to the institution, and complete the academic and language requirements. Retain your offer and understand outstanding conditions.

02Campus France procedureComplete the steps for your actual circumstances.

Prepare the Études en France file

Follow Campus France India's instructions for your course and current stage. A direct institutional offer does not automatically remove the relevant pre-consular procedure. Check documents, payment and file-review steps.

Complete required Campus France stages

Follow any academic interview or clarification instructions and retain the completion records requested for the visa stage. Use your actual study plans and evidence; Campus France processing is not a consular visa decision.

03Evidence & submissionBring funding, records and France-Visas together.

Organise funding and arrival evidence

Prepare accepted financial records and any accommodation or cover evidence requested by your checklist. Check amounts, dates, availability and the conditions of any loan, scholarship or sponsorship.

Complete France-Visas and submission

Use the official France-Visas process and applicable India appointment instructions. Review the form, generated checklist, documents, charges and biometric requirements before attending the authorised submission centre.

04Decision & arrivalReview the permission and follow arrival instructions.

Follow assessment and review the decision

Monitor messages and respond to requests. If granted, check the visa category, validity, entry dates and any attached instructions. Coordinate delays with your institution rather than assuming a decision date.

Validate a VLS-TS after arrival

If issued a VLS-TS, validate it online within three months of arriving in France and follow the current payment instructions. Keep confirmation. Other visa or residence categories may require a different process.

Complete enrolment and plan ahead

Follow your institution's registration steps, check any CVEC and health-cover formalities, and review the renewal process before your permission expires.

Your document preparation

Gather the evidence.
Keep the details consistent.

This is a preparation aid, not a universal list. Follow the current generated checklist and any request for further evidence.

€877.50per month · verify before submission

This is not a tuition quote or a guarantee of adequate funding for your actual city. Check the period and evidence requested for your circumstances.

A 12-month illustration is €10,530 (€877.50 × 12), before tuition and other costs. It does not determine the period your application must evidence.

Bring each requirement into view.

Campus France India publishes €877.50 per month from 1 August 2026 as the minimum financial-resources threshold for student visa preparation.

Check the period to evidence, tuition obligations, accepted sources and the precise documents requested in your application.

Explain loans, awards or sponsor arrangements accurately, including conditions and availability. A pending scholarship is not confirmed funding.

Plan actual rent, daily costs, travel and setup separately. Expected employment or unconfirmed housing aid should not replace your funding plan.

Check charges separately. Confirm current Campus France, visa, authorised service-centre, document and post-arrival charges. Verify exemptions before payment.

Admission, Campus France and visa: who decides?

Institution admission

  • Academic qualifications, subject preparation and course selection
  • Teaching-language evidence and any programme assessment
  • Offer conditions, tuition and award arrangements

Visa & residence

  • Correct route, identity and relevant study or Campus France records
  • Accepted funding, accommodation and other requested evidence
  • Consular assessment followed by the formalities for the permission issued

Institutions decide admission; Campus France manages the relevant academic or pre-consular procedure; the competent authorities decide visa and residence matters. An offer, tuition payment or completed Campus France file does not guarantee a visa.

Études en France and the academic interview
  • Check Campus France India's instructions for your study level, programme, residence and application cycle.
  • Distinguish applying for admission through the platform from recording an offer already received directly from an institution.
  • Follow the actual document, fee, review and interview instructions. Do not assume a fixed interview duration or office arrangement.
  • Keep the completion records requested for submission and clarify changes to the course, institution or intake before applying.
French and English language evidence
  • Check whether the course is French-taught or English-taught and which evidence the institution accepts.
  • There is no universal IELTS, TOEFL or French-test score for all programmes. Confirm any documented exemption rather than assuming it.
  • Check language evidence requested in the relevant admission and visa instructions and keep it consistent with the actual programme.
Housing and health-cover questions
  • Use the application checklist to confirm the housing evidence requested for your circumstances and the period it must cover.
  • Keep the address, provider and booking or host details consistent with the evidence. Confirm change or cancellation terms before paying.
  • Check any insurance evidence requested for the visa and travel, plus health-cover arrangements after arrival. Do not assume every student must buy the same policy.
Study gaps and document consistency
  • Keep dates and qualifications consistent across your records, application and explanations.
  • Explain relevant study or employment gaps accurately using the information requested; do not invent activities or experiences.
  • Seek clarification about a discrepancy or previous application issue before submitting rather than hiding it.
Family routes and separate requirements
  • Do not assume a student permission automatically covers a partner, child or parent.
  • Check the appropriate route for each person, relationship and funding evidence, application timing and any conditions.
  • Work eligibility is a separate question. Nationality, status and route-specific conditions can affect what is permitted.
Student employment and permission conditions
  • France-Visas states that foreign students are generally authorised to work up to 964 hours per year, with different rules for some nationalities and situations.
  • Check your actual permission, study circumstances and any conditions before working.
  • Work is a supplementary resource. Permission does not guarantee a job or enough income to cover the full study cost.
Post-study options and alumni visas
  • Eligible graduates may have a job-search, business-creation or employment-related residence option. Check the qualification, nationality, current permission and application conditions.
  • Do not assume the same APS or job-search duration applies to every student. Identify the route appropriate to your circumstances before permission expires.
  • A multi-entry short-stay alumni visa is not a general right to live or work in France. Read its purpose and conditions separately.
  • Admission or graduation does not guarantee employment, further residence or permanent residence.
Processing, delays and changed plans
  • Track admission, Campus France, appointment availability and consular assessment as separate stages.
  • Use current official application windows and processing guidance. Estimates are not guaranteed decision dates.
  • If your plans change or a decision is delayed, contact the institution about latest arrival or deferral and clarify whether application records must be updated.
VLS-TS validation and arrival formalities
  • Validate a VLS-TS online within three months of arrival; follow different instructions if another category was issued.
  • Retain validation confirmation and complete your institution's enrolment and relevant student-life formalities.
  • Check your health-cover arrangements and the current renewal process in time before your permission expires.
Use the current financial threshold for your application date.

Campus France India states that the minimum financial resources for a French student visa increased to €877.50 per month from 1 August 2026. Check current application instructions and accepted evidence before submitting. This living-resources threshold is separate from tuition and a realistic full study budget.

Your questions, answered

Before you submit.

Talk to a counsellor
Is Campus France approval the same as visa approval?

No. The institution, Campus France and the competent visa authority have different roles. Complete the procedure that applies to you, but do not treat an admission offer or a completed Campus France file as a guaranteed visa decision.

What is the current financial-resources minimum?

Campus France India states €877.50 per month from 1 August 2026. Confirm the current threshold, period and accepted evidence for your application date. Tuition and actual living costs need separate planning; this is not a complete course budget.

Do I still need Études en France with a direct university offer?

A direct offer does not automatically remove relevant Campus France pre-consular steps. Follow the current India instructions for your programme, residence and circumstances, including how to record an existing admission.

Is there one required language score for a France student visa?

No single course-entry score applies to every French institution. Check the teaching language, accepted evidence and any exemption for the actual programme, alongside the documents requested for your visa application.

What fees and processing time should I expect?

Check current Campus France, visa, authorised service-centre and post-arrival charges separately, including any applicable exemption. Track each stage's instructions and estimates; there is no guaranteed decision or appointment timeline.

What must I do after arriving with a VLS-TS?

Validate the VLS-TS online within three months of arrival, follow the current payment instructions and retain confirmation. Complete university enrolment and any relevant CVEC, health-cover or other formalities. Different permission categories may have different instructions.

Can I work during studies or remain after graduation?

France-Visas gives a general student work limit of 964 hours per year, subject to the rules for your circumstances. Post-study residence is a separate question depending on the qualification, nationality and route. Neither employment nor further residence is guaranteed.

Can my family accompany me?

Check the appropriate route and requirements for each family member. Do not assume that student permission automatically includes family members or gives a partner work rights. Discuss your circumstances and whether qualified immigration advice is needed.
