An English test’s name, purpose and acceptance matter. Confirm the requirements of your exact programme and any separate visa or professional route.
PTE Academic UKVI
Where a UK route requires an approved SELT, confirm the correct version and approved test centre. Admission and immigration checks are separate.
PTE Core
Used for Canadian immigration purposes where accepted. It has its own format and requirements; do not book it as a substitute for an Academic requirement.

Check PTE Academic acceptance, the overall and individual skill requirements, and any visa-specific test version.

Review your starting point
Use a diagnostic attempt to identify language gaps, microphone habits, typing accuracy and timing issues.

Practise genuine responses
Work on relevant content, intelligible speech and accurate written answers. Review mistakes instead of relying on memorised templates.

Check readiness and deadlines
Review recent practice, ID and booking rules, test availability and reporting time. Allow room for delays or a retake.

Is PTE Academic the same as PTE Core?
No. They are different tests with different purposes and acceptance. PTE Academic is used for academic study and certain other routes. PTE Core serves Canadian immigration purposes where accepted. Check your exact programme and immigration category before booking.
What changed in PTE Academic in August 2025?
Pearson added Summarize Group Discussion and Respond to a Situation, bringing the test to 22 question types. Content on selected tasks is reviewed by both AI and human raters. Prepare for the current task types and give relevant, genuine responses.
Is the PTE overall score the average of the four skills?
No. Pearson calculates the overall score from performance across the test; it is not the arithmetic average of Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing. Enter your reported overall score separately when checking a programme’s requirements.
What PTE score does my university require?
Use the current requirement for your exact programme and intake, including overall and individual skill minimums. Immigration or professional requirements can differ. A comparison with IELTS does not replace the receiving organisation’s stated PTE requirement.
How quickly will I receive my PTE results?
Pearson says results are normally available within two days in almost all cases, but some take longer. Allow extra time for review, score sharing and the receiving organisation’s processing. Do not assume a result will arrive before a tight deadline.
Do templates guarantee a high PTE score?
No. Responses need to address the actual prompt and meet the task requirements. Practise useful organisation, relevant content, intelligible speech and accurate language. Memorised material or a practice score cannot guarantee your official result.
Should I book PTE Academic UKVI?
Confirm whether your UK route requires an approved Secure English Language Test and which test version and centre qualify. Academic admission and immigration acceptance are separate checks. PTE Academic and PTE Academic UKVI should not be treated as interchangeable for every purpose.
How long does PTE coaching take?
That depends on your starting level, target, weekly study time and progress. Discuss your requirements with the team and confirm the current fees, schedule, delivery format, practice resources and feedback before enrolling. No fixed course length guarantees a score.
