Check your intended programmes’ current test policies and application rounds. A score is one part of your application; it does not replace academic, experience or language requirements.
Confirm what your business school accepts.
Check GMAT, GRE, waiver and score-reporting requirements for the exact programme and intake. Do not assume every school treats each option the same.

Use current-format diagnostic practice. Identify concept, comprehension, data interpretation and timing gaps.

Combine focused skill work with timed sets. Keep an error log and rehearse pacing, section order and review decisions.

Check booking, identification and delivery requirements. Allow time for reporting, recipient processing and any retake before deadlines.

Is GMAT Focus Edition a different test from the current GMAT?
GMAC transitioned back to the GMAT Exam name from July 2024 after the earlier edition was retired. Older materials may still say Focus Edition. Use the current three-section format and the correct score scale rather than materials for the earlier four-section exam.
What GMAT score should I aim for?
Use your shortlisted programmes’ current admissions guidance and any section-specific expectations. There is no universal score that guarantees an MBA offer or scholarship. Review the rest of your profile and application requirements alongside the test result.
How is the GMAT Total Score calculated?
GMAC reports a Total Score from 205–805 based on performance across Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning and Data Insights, with the three sections weighted equally. Each section is scored from 60–90. This page compares reported scores with entered targets; it does not invent a total from section scores.
Can I directly compare current and older GMAT totals?
The current 205–805 and older 200–800 scales differ. Do not treat the same number or a fixed one-to-one conversion as equivalent performance. Use GMAC’s current concordance and percentile guidance, and the receiving school’s instructions, where a comparison is needed.
Can I choose section order and change answers?
You can choose the order of the three sections. After answering all questions in a section, remaining time permits review and up to three answer edits in that section. There is one optional 10-minute break after the first or second section. Practise these features before test day.
Can I use a calculator in the GMAT?
The on-screen calculator is available in Data Insights. Calculator use is not permitted in Quantitative Reasoning or Verbal Reasoning. Practise arithmetic and reasoning methods that fit the section’s actual rules.
Does the score checker calculate a GMAT Superscore?
No. GMAC has a separate Superscore reporting feature with its own eligibility and reporting conditions, and schools decide how to consider it. Use GMAC-issued results and the receiving programme’s instructions. This checker does not combine attempts, create a Superscore or calculate percentile ranks.
GMAT or GRE: which should I prepare for?
Check which tests your exact programmes accept and whether they state a preference or waiver policy. Then compare current-format diagnostic performance, skill gaps and available study time. Neither exam guarantees admission, and English-language evidence may still be required separately.
