Do all universities and visa routes accept the Duolingo English Test?
No. Confirm acceptance with your exact programme and intake before booking. A university’s admission policy does not establish acceptance for every visa, professional or licensing purpose. Check any separate requirements directly.
What DET score should I aim for?
Use the current overall and subscore requirements for your intended programme. There is no universal score that guarantees admission or a scholarship. An IELTS or TOEFL comparison does not replace a programme’s stated DET requirements.
How is the Duolingo English Test overall score calculated?
The overall score is the average of the four individual subscores—Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking—rounded to the nearest 5. Use those individual scores in the calculator, rather than Literacy, Comprehension, Conversation and Production. This arithmetic tool does not assess responses or certify results.
How do individual and integrated subscores differ?
Individual subscores describe Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. Integrated subscores combine pairs: Literacy is reading and writing; Comprehension is reading and listening; Conversation is listening and speaking; Production is writing and speaking. Check which subscores your programme requires.
What is Interactive Speaking?
Interactive Speaking uses follow-up questions in a conversation-style task. It is part of the current test format. Practise listening to each prompt and giving a relevant, developed response; do not rely on older task lists or memorised scripts.
Do I need a phone as well as a computer?
Current DET setup uses your computer and a phone as a secondary camera. Follow the required app, positioning, room-scan and ear-scan instructions. The phone’s camera should show the required view of your screen and keyboard; it is not a device for answering test questions.
What if my result is not certified?
Read the exact message in your account and follow the applicable official support, review or retest instructions. A practice score cannot guarantee certification. Do not assume every uncertified result has the same cause or that a coaching provider can reverse the decision.
How long does DET preparation take and what does coaching include?
The right pace depends on your starting skills, target and available study time. Confirm current batch fees, schedules, delivery formats, practice resources and writing or speaking feedback with the team. Test fees and official result timelines should be checked separately before purchase.
